Postpartum care for mother and family

The initial weeks following the birth of a child are life-changing. The physical and emotional challenges are unique, as new parents struggle to set aside their own needs in favor of the newborn. The mother faces these changes with additional physical burdens. Exhausted from the stress of birth, she quickly becomes sleep-deprived  as she takes on round-the-clock care of the infant.

Her husband or partner may be baffled by the tiny child’s demands, and well-intentioned family members often have no idea how to help. When a trained and effective caregiver, the postpartum doula, enters the home of the new family, the entire family unit receives compassionate and competent support in an atmosphere of calm, loving order.
